EcoCashew.com Is Spearheading the Charge to End the Exploitation of African Cashew Farmers

Interlaken / Switzerland / June 21st / Cashew nut is one of the most popular and widely consumed snacks globally as it is rich in a vast range of nutrients, from protein to carbs, calcium, magnesium, fiber, copper, zinc, and lots more. Also, it is known for its long list of unique benefits in addition to its great taste. However, despite cashew nuts being available globally, cashews only grow in specific regions of the world, mainly Africa and a few parts of Asia. This has its own set of challenges.

Challenges associated with cashew processing and exportation

The goal of every commercial farmer is to make good yields and enjoy returns on the farming produce; however, for cashew farmers in Africa, this is far from being a reality.

The process involved in cashew processing is both tedious and dangerous because the seeds contain anacardic acids, which are poisonous and have a harsh effect on the skin. As such, cashew nuts have to undergo a high level of processing before consumption. Due to the processes involved and the lack of proper storage plants and processing plants, African farmers are mostly exploited for their produce and paid negligible prices for a commodity that has a high value in the market.

These raw cashew kernels are then shipped mostly to Asia, where they are processed before being distributed to Europe and the United States. So, the cashew nuts travel around different continents involving lots of transportation, which translates to the high price of cashew nuts.

The question now is, is it possible for African cashew farmers to enjoy fair produce pricing without increasing the price of cashew nuts globally? Fortunately, yes. This is due to EcoCashew, an innovation built on blockchain technology focused on changing the cashew processing narrative for farmers in West Africa.

What is EcoCashew, and how do they plan to solve the problems with cashew processing and pricing?

EcoCashew is a cashew farmer’s project built on blockchain technology. The project bridges the gap between the crypto world and the real world by utilizing asset-backed CashewF tokens to enable West African cashew producers to earn an honest living through Fair Trade rates.

They plan on constructing an EcoCashew Processing Plants, which will provide an excellent opportunity for individuals from all over the world to touch and improve the lives of more than 2000  less fortunate, industrious farmers, thereby bringing wealth to cashew farmers and workers in West Africa. In addition to creating opportunities for farmers, this will also create stable job opportunities for people in the region.

World's first Eco Fair Trade asset backed crypto project

Without a doubt, the EcoCashew project is an opportunity to do good, improve the quality of farmers’ lives and the reduction of the CO2 Carbon footprint of the cashews processed at the EcoCashew processing plant. The project is focused on achieving the United Nations SDGs and is being led by Mr. Ronald Buijk, who has over 25 years of experience in West Africa and understands the dynamics in Africa to successfully implement a cashew processing plant in the region.

To achieve this elaborate goal, EcoCashew has created CashewF and Cashew tokens, which are cryptocurrency coins on the Cardano network. In the next 12 months, they plan to finalize the first phase of the project, which includes the completion of the cashew factory, having processing machines in it, while preparing to commence cashew processing.

What are CashewF and Cashew Tokens?

The CashewF token (CSHWF) is a utility token designed to support the creation of the cashew processing factory in West Africa. In contrast, the Cashew token (CSHW) is the second stage token that will be launched to support the purchase of raw materials at Fair-Trade prices for the factory to process.

Typically, innovations like this are primarily financed through VCs but using blockchain technology, EcoCashew is positioning itself to get support from a global community, thereby putting these farmers at the center of the project. Also, besides doing good, holding the tokens gives you access to a monthly benefit once the plant is fully operational and ownership of a limited number of non-fungible tokens – NFT support badges.

Conclusion

Averagely, cashew farmers from Asia make over 250% more profit than African cashew farmers despite the high rate of inflation in African countries. This is far from fair and needs to stop. Before now, several notable bodies have called attention to this menace, but little to nothing has been done.

However, the narrative is changing; luckily, anyone can join this movement. A movement conceived to alleviate the conditions of cashew farmers in Africa while also impacting the global market one processing plant at a time. EcoCashew has created a way for everyone to unite to solve a problem; the question is, are you ready?
